I tried everything, including all suggestions from Adobe's web site. I even logged in as Root user, downloaded the program and installed from there. The same failure occurred every time.

My habit of deleting all data from every new Mac I buy, dividing the hard drive into two partitions, then re-installing the OS on one of them paid off once again. My MacBook Pro has been running Yosemite for some time now, the second partition didn't have an OS on it, only data, so that's where I installed Sierra.
