Ok..I purchased the airport extreme base station. After a little work I got it wroking great. I have my MBP on it, my girlfriend's ibm (her MBP in is in the mail) and my pc desktop. Both PCs are running xp. I have a ML-1740 samsung laser printer. I plugged it into the usb port on the base station. Hopefully I simply just tried to print an email. A print dialog box popped up with no printer selected. I hit the drop down arrow and went to add a printer.
The 'Printer List' box opened up and I hit the add printer button. This brings up the 'Printer Browser' box. And to my excitement it had Samsung ML-1740 listed with a connection of 'Bonjour'. I highlighted this and below it had the name as Samsng ML-1740 and the location of my base station, both good signs in my eyes. However I needed to select the driver or model. When I hit this drop down arrow my heart sunk as I didn't see any samsung drivers.
I googled around abit and found out that the samsung webite for the usa says that they do not support Macs, however an ifelix website said that I could get the drivers for my printer at the aussie samsung site. I went there and downloaded the drivers (the newest ones for mac 10.3+). I installed them so that now I have a 'SAMSUNG' folder listed with all my other printer folders (Brother, ESPON, hp..and so on). I tried again to add the printer but Samsung was still not listed in the 'select the driver or model' drop down.
I further googled around and found out about GIMP-Print. It said it supported 600 extra models that OEM didn't so I downloaded and installed it. I was not able to get the printer working via the base station..but I was able to get it working if I just plugged it into my usb port on my MBP.
That is where I am at right now. Since My girlfriend is getting a MBP in a few days I am not concerned about getting her IBM to print. I would be happy if both MBPs printed wirelessly...and i would be very happy if the Desktop would to (it has an ethernet cord running to the base station..No wifi card in it)
Any help, suggestions, or links to websites that point me in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
