macOS Recovery is part of the built-in recovery system of your Mac. /hp-utility-for-mac-yosemite.html. It can help you restore data from Time Machine, reinstall the operating system, get online help online, repair or erase a hard disk, and much more.

You can start up from macOS Recovery and use its utilities to recover from many types of software issues or take other actions on your Mac such as:

• Upgrading your desktop or laptop to the latest version of macOS that’s compatible with your Mac;
• Installing, or reinstalling the version of the operating system with which your Mac shipped. If it’s not available, macOS Recovery can help you track down the version closest to it that’s still available.)

To use macOS Recovery, hold down Command (⌘)-R on your keyboard immediately after restarting your Mac or immediately after your Mac begins to restart. Continue holding the keys down until you see the Apple logo or a spinning globe. Startup is complete when you see the utilities window.

You may have to enter a password, such as a firmware password or the password of the user who’s an administrator of the Mac. Newer Mac computers and some older Macs automatically try to start up from macOS Recovery over the Internet when unable to start up from the built-in recovery system. When that happens, you see a spinning globe instead of an Apple logo during startup.

To manually start up from macOS Recovery over the Internet, hold down Option-Command-R or Shift-Option-Command-R at startup. If you still can’t start up from macOS Recovery, and you have a Mac that is able to start up completely, you might be able to create an external Mac startup disk to start up from instead. I’ll cover this in an upcoming article.

The “Get Help Online” option in macOS Recovery lets you use Safari to browse the web and find help for your Mac. Links to Apple’s support website are included. Browser plug-ins and extensions are disabled.

You can use Disk Utility to repair or erase your startup disk or other storage device.

To quit macOS Recovery, choose Restart or Shut Down from the Apple menu (). If you want to choose a different startup disk before quitting, choose “Startup Disk” from the Apple menu.

After updating to macOS Catalina, you might discover a new folder called Relocated Items on your desktop. Don't worry; there's nothing wrong with your computer. Here's what you should know about this folder -- and what to do with it.

What is the Relocated Items folder?

During the upgrade process to macOS Catalina, your computer might determine that some files can't get moved to a new location or may not be compatible with the update's new security settings. When this occurs, it places these unedited files into the Relocated Items folder on your desktop.

You shouldn't delete this folder sight unseen. Instead, take some time and look at the files in question. Move essential data to a new location while leaving everything else in place.

Okay, let's delete this folder

After reviewing the contents of the Relocated Items folder and moving important files to a new location, it's time to delete the folder from your desktop.

Depending on the contents of the folder, deleting it might be as simple as right-clicking and selecting Move to Trash. If, when attempting to do so, you get an error message, deleting the folder might take a few more steps. Error messages could include wording such as 'this folder can't be modified or deleted.. ' or 'the operation can't be completed ..'

To delete the folder under this scenario, you'll need to disable System Integrity Protection (SIP).

1. Choose Restart from the Apple logo at the top-left of your computer.
2. Hold down the Command-R keys during reboot to enter Recovery Mode.
3. Click Go from the Mac Toolbar.
4. Choose Utilities.

5. Select Terminal.

6. Type of the following command syntax: csrutil disable .
7. Hit Return to disable SIP.
8. Reboot your computer as you normally would.
9. Delete the Relocated items folder from the desktop.

Finally, it's time to re-enable SIP:

1. Choose Restart from the Apple logo at the top-left of your computer.
2. Hold down the Command-R keys during reboot to enter Recovery Mode.
3. Click Go from the Mac Toolbar.
4. Choose Utilities.

5. Select Terminal.

6. Type of the following command syntax: csrutil enable .
7. Hit Return to disable SIP.
8. Reboot your computer as you normally would.

That's it; the Relocated Items folder is now gone forever on your macOS Catalina-enabled device!
